Your study plan, month by month

Pick your exam. The highlighted step is where you should be right now.

  1. Oct – Dec 2026

    Build the base

Revise earlier lessons, learn new kanji every week and keep up with each unit test.

  2. Jan – Apr 2027

    Finish the syllabus

Cover the remaining units, including literature and the culture section. Start past papers by topic.

  3. May – Jun 2027

    Full papers, on the clock

Sit full past papers in exam time. Use each monthly model paper to find your weak areas.

  4. Jul 2027

    Revise, don't start new

Kanji lists, grammar notes, culture notes and your own mistake list. Sleep well.

  5. Aug 2027

    A/L exam

3 – 28 August 2027. Check your own Japanese paper date on the timetable.

Kanji flashcards

Read the kanji, say the reading, then tap to check. Meanings are in Sinhala and English.

Quick quiz

Five questions on the same words: some ask the meaning, some ask the reading. A new set every time.

Stroke order

Watch each stroke draw in order. Numbers show where each stroke begins.

Watch the order, then write it yourself in a square on your genkō paper. Correct stroke order is what makes kanji neat and quick in the exam.

Study and exam-day tips

Learn kanji inside words

Remember 学校 and 学生 together and 学 sticks. Single kanji on their own fade fast.

Keep a mistake list

After every unit test, write down what you got wrong. Read that list in the last month.

Practise under exam time

From your final months, sit full papers with a timer, not with the book open.

Read the whole paper first

On the day, spend the first minutes reading every question and planning your time.

Neat kanji earn marks

Use the right stroke order and keep each kanji inside its square. Examiners must be able to read it.

Mark hard questions, come back

Don't get stuck. Answer what you know, mark the rest and return with the time left.
